Balinese Massage, in general, can be recommended for almost everyone, but there are cases or contraindications when it is necessary to be more careful or make some changes. Before going for Balinese Massage or any massage treatment it is wise to talk to the massage therapist and take into account general health circumstances. Here are some factors to consider:
Medical Conditions: Patients with cardiopulmonary diseases or acute hypertension, severe injuries, bone fractures, or skin infections are contraindicated or are advised to alter the massage techniques. One must seek the permission of his/her doctor for any kind of massage if he/she suffering from any medical condition.
Pregnancy: Another precaution that pregnant women should be keen on is to always inform the massage therapist that they are pregnant. Although pregnancy is not contraindicated for Balinese Massage, some regions and techniques can be modified depending on the client’s condition and wishes.
Recent Surgeries: Another thing that a massage therapist must ask his/her client is about the operation he/she has undergone in the recent past. They can choose the right massage techniques concerning any surgical areas.
Skin Sensitivity and Allergies: Balinese Massage may apply oil or lotion on the body as a way of massaging the clients. Again, if a client has allergy or is sensitive to certain products, the information should be passed on to the therapist.
Open Wounds or Skin Conditions: Massaging should not be done on open wounds, cuts, bruised or infected zones of your skin it is advisable that they be avoided. The therapist can just ignore the areas or even stop the session altogether to avoid provoking the patient.
Medications: Let your massage therapist know any medications you are on as some medications can alter the way your body responds to massage.
Personal Comfort: When receiving the massage speak out loud on any discomfort or pain or any preference that you have to the masseuse. This way, they will be able to modify the pressure intensity, the methods used, or the areas of concentration.
